RUN YOUR RACE

A year later from the blog about the Tow, my dad's truck is repaired and now residing in Michigan. It's a classic to me, so we drive the truck just around town and make sure we don't drive over 50 miles per hour. So you guessed it; no highway driving.

Recently I was returning home from an appointment in the truck and I was enjoying the drive on the backroads of a 2 lane, semi developed country road, observing the changing of the leaves on the trees, noticing new developments and wondering who's building and why and just engaged with my thoughts at 40 miles per hour. I noticed in the rear view mirror a car passing...ok, then another car coming....and passing. I looked at the speedometer and sped up, just a little because 50 is my mark. Then the Spirit of God spoke....Run Your Race!

Don't think that I need to speed up; don't think that I need to feel bad; no need to feel nervous; run Your race. Hebrews 12:1 says, "let us run with endurance the race that is set before us." This lets me know that we each have our own race to run. I can't get anxious because someone runs faster than me. I can't get in my feelings because someone passes me. I can't have a desire to compete when I see the potential of someone passing me. God calls and dictates the pace of our race in seasons of life. There are times that we need to run (drive) the 75s and 80s, and there are other times that we run (drive) the 40s and 50s.

In the revelation, God says, run your race, not anyone else's, not trying to keep up with anyone else because that's not what I'm called to do. Let the cars pass; be comfortable in the speed that I'm going, in the lane that I'm in, going in the direction that I need to, and keeping the pace that God has for me. I couldn't get distracted, so I slowed down and the cars that needed to pass did. All was well. I enjoyed my drive, the observations of rurality being expanded and the memories of dad.
