I heard a powerful statement recently from a movie series that really peaked my spirit. The character in the movie made this profound statement. "You Can't Fight an Enemy You Don't Understand."
See when you know and better yet understand something, you're able to strategize, plan and maneuver in systems that provide opportunities and victories. The enemy knows us better than we know ourselves sometimes. The enemy knows our triggers, our likes and dislikes and he uses these things against us to limit access, opportunities and cause defeat. However, it's when we are also aware of his devices against us that we're able to counteract or counterattack the devices. Because You Can't Fight an Enemy You Don't Understand.
Sometimes the enemy can be divisive, intentional or opposing. I often think of companies or systems that are full of bureaucratic jargon red tapes of limitations for certain classes of individuals. When a person is aware of these they are able to ascertain the necessary supports, strategies or maneuver their way to achieving and obtaining what they need. In other words they understood the system and was able to fight against the jargon and red tapes before them.
Likewise, in your life, what do you know or understand and how is that assisting you in fighting? As a testimony, I understood that the enemy wanted to destroy my marriage. That understanding led me to fight in the natural and in the spirit. Not only did I have to talk to and deal with the enemy head on, but behind closed doors, I had to pray, read my Word, stand on the promises, and encourage myself in the Lord. In my career, I knew the enemy didn't want me to expose and advocate for children and families, so I had to fight in the natural and in the spirit. I had to advocate in leadership, truth and boldness and in the spirit, I had to pray for my enemies and ask God for guidance, wisdom and protection. Through these various ways of fighting, my marriage was restored and I continued in a lucrative career for 42 years. When you know your enemy, you can fight with precision and accuracy to win the battles.
2 Corinthians 2:11 talks about us knowing the devices of the enemy, therefore we can't allow him to take advantage of us and in this context because of unforgiveness. We are reminded that the only intention of the devices is to kill, steal and destroy. His desire is to sift us as wheat. Nevertheless, there is a counterword. Because WE KNOW that all things do work together for the good to those who love and are called by God. WE KNOW that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. WE KNOW that as Jesus prayed for Peter, He prays for us that our faith will not fail. WE KNOW that God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can think, ask or imagine according to the power within us. WE KNOW that the testing of our faith is producing perseverance in us to press on and to live.
Be encouraged because in the end, we already won.
